Repair Procedure
NOTE:Be careful that dirt does not enter power steering (P/S) pipe, reserve tank, or pump, and contaminate the system.
[Removal]
1. Drain oil from reserve tank.
a) Remove cap and filter from reserve tank.
NOTE:
Be careful not to get any dirt, etc. on the filter.
b) Drain oil from reserve tank with a manual pump.
FIGURE 1:
2. Disconnect high pressure hose and low pressure hose.
a) Put shop rags at the area indicated in Figure 1.
b) Disconnect high pressure hose from pipe with a wrench.
c) Move hose clamp to the reserve tank side with pliers, then disconnect low pressure hose from the pipe.
FIGURE 2:
3A. Vehicles with air conditioner (A/C)
Remove A/C compressor.
NOTE:
Cover radiator with corrugated cardboard in order to protect radiator fins.
a) Remove A/C compressor with the pipes attached.
b) Place the removed compressor onto the cylinder head cover.
NOTE:
Put shop rags under the compressor in order not to damage the cylinder head cover.
CAUTION:
If the compressor is tipped or rolled, loss of oil may occur.
FIGURE 3:
3B. Vehicles without A/C
Remove idler pulley.
a) Remove pipe clip mount bolt 1.
b) Loosen bolts (2 & 3), and remove belt.
c) Remove bolt 4 and idler pulley.
FIGURE 4:
4. Remove P/S pump and pipe.
a) Loosen flare nut 1 at the connection of pump and high pressure hose.
b) Remove clip mount bolts 2 & 3.
c) Hold oil pump pulley with screwdriver inserted in service hole and remove pulley nut 4.
NOTE:
Pulley will be caught between pump and body and it cannot be removed unless pump is removed.
d) Remove pump mounting bolts and remove pump and pipe assembly.
e) Disconnect the pipe from the pump and discard the pipe assembly.
FIGURE 5:
5. Remove suction pipe from P/S pump.
a) Secure the removed pump to vice with suction pipe upward.
b) Remove mount bolts and suction pipe.
NOTE:
After suction pipe is removed, do not touch O-ring. It is to be reused.
FIGURE 6:
[Installation]
1. Install new suction pipe to P/S pump, Tightening torque:
13.7 - 18.6 N-m, 140 - 190 cm-kg, 122 - 165 in.lb.
NOTE:
Before installing suction pipe, be sure to confirm that the O-ring is positioned in the groove.
FIGURE 7:
2. Install hose assembly to P/S pump temporarily.
a) Install high pressure hose to P/S pump temporarily.
b) After putting hose clamp onto low pressure hose, connect the hose to the suction pipe and secure it with the hose clamp.
3. Install P/S pump and P/S pipe assembly at the engine side.
NOTE:
Before installing pump, place pulley on pump shaft; otherwise it is impossible to install pulley because of very small gap between the shaft and body.
Install P/S pump on pump bracket.
4. Install pulley on P/S pump.
Install pulley on pump with screwdriver inserted in service hole and tighten mount nut.
FIGURE 8:
5. Install hose bracket on pump bracket.
NOTE:
When installing the bracket, be sure to secure pump bracket flange to stopper.
Tightening Torque:
37 - 52 N-m, 3.8 - 5.3 m-kg, 27.5 - 38.3 ft.lb.
FIGURE 9:
6A. Vehicle with A/C
