1988 626/MX-6 EC-AT Special Service Program --- SSP05

Dear Mazda Owner:

Mazda Motor Corporation has found that some of the 1988 626/MX-6 might have a failure in the reverse clutch piston of the electronically-controlled automatic transaxle (hereinafter EC-AT) and this may result in less effective driving performance. If this condition is left as it is, there is a possibility that the reverse clutch may burn out.

We are now making arrangements for you to have this checked and repaired, if necessary, at an authorized Mazda dealer, free of charge, on or after January 15, 1988. This modification must be completed before January 14, 1989. In order to minimize your inconvenience, it is recommended that you make an appointment with your dealer for the inspection of your 626/MX-6's EC-AT

You will receive or may have recently received a similar recall notification letter. We are now making our best efforts so that the recall work and this EC-AT service can be completed at your first visit. However, we may have to ask you to bring your car to the dealer twice, because there may exist occasions that the countermeasure part is out of stock at your dealer due to a limited availability of repair parts. Please accept our sincerest apologies if that is so.

Any problems encountered in this service program should be discussed with your nearest authorized Mazda dealer or Mazda distributor/regional office listed in your Owner's Manual.

We apologize for any inconvenience that this special service program may cause you. However, in order for us to stand behind our product at all times, it is necessary for us to conduct this voluntary special service program.

Again, we are sorry for this and hope it will not cause you too much inconvenience.
