Engine Replace
1. Release fuel system pressure as follows:
a. Start engine and disconnect circuit opening relay electrical connector.
b. After engine stalls, turn ignition switch to Off.
c. Reconnect circuit opening relay.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable, then drain engine oil and coolant.
3. Remove fresh air duct and air cleaner assembly.
4. Disconnect accelerator cable.
5. Remove cooling fan, radiator cowl and drive belt.
6. Disconnect spark plug wires and remove spark plugs.
7. Disconnect canister hose, brake vacuum hose and the fuel hoses. Cover fuel hoses with rag to prevent spillage, then plug hoses to prevent leakage.
8. Disconnect heater hose and the engine harness.
9. Remove engine under cover, then the lower radiator hose.
10. On models with automatic transmission, disconnect transmission cooling hoses at radiator.
11. On all models, disconnect radiator harness and remove radiator.
12. Remove alternator and alternator strap.
13. Remove power steering pump and A/C compressor, leaving hoses attached, and position out of way.
14. Disconnect exhaust pipe at manifold.
15. Remove transmission.
16. Remove left side engine mount attaching nuts, then the engine.
17. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Torque engine mount attaching nuts to 25-36 ft.lbs.
b. Torque exhaust pipe and power steering pump attaching bolts to 23-34 ft.lbs.
c. Torque power steering pump adjustment bolt to 29-43 ft.lbs.
d. Torque A/C compressor and alternator attaching bolts to 27-38 ft.lbs.
e. Torque radiator attaching bolts to 16-22 ft.lbs.
f. When installing radiator hoses, position hose clamps in original locations on hoses, then squeeze clamps lightly with large pliers to ensure good fit.
