1. Start engine and allow to reach normal operating temperature, then turn engine off.
2. Connect system checker to green, 6 pin check connector and negative battery cable, Fig. 23.
3. Set select switch to A position.
4. Connect jumper wire between green, 1 pin test connector and ground.
5. Turn ignition switch to On position, then check whether 88 flashes on digital display and buzzer sounds for 3 seconds after turning ignition switch On.
6. If 88 does not flash, check the check connector wiring.
7. If 88 flashes and buzzer sounds continuously for more than 20 seconds, check short circuit between engine control unit terminal 1B and green, 6 pin check connector, then replace engine control unit if necessary and and repeat steps 4 and 5.
8. Check for any malfunction code number, then start engine and check for further malfunction code numbers.
9. If code number(s) illuminates, refer to ``Testing procedures.'' If there is more than 1 failure present, the lowest number malfunction code is displayed first, the subsequent malfunction codes light up in order. After performing repairs, cancel malfunction code numbers. Refer to ``After-Repair procedure.''
