Shoulder Belt - Auxiliary Anchor Point

DESCRIPTION

An auxiliary center pillar anchor point for the shoulder belts is provided on the following Mazda models:
1986-1988 323, 1988 626, MX-6 and 929. This auxiliary anchor point is provided for extra comfort and convenience to front seat occupants whose necks are likely to be in contact with the shoulder belt due to their seating postures and/or body structure.

The original anchor point for the front seat shoulder belt is designed so that the belt is in a position that will be comfortable for the majority of drivers and passengers. The auxiliary anchor point is to be used ONLY for vehicles with occupants that are inconvenienced by the original shoulder belt position.

Excluding vehicles equipped with automatic seat belt.


PROCEDURE TO RELOCATE ANCHOR POINT

[for 626, MX-6 and 929]

1) Remove shoulder belt anchor cover and remove anchor bolt.

2) Remove center pillar garnish.

3) Identify the location of the auxiliary anchor point position which may be marked approximately 2" (varies from model to model) below the original anchor position on the back surface of the garnish panel.

4) Drill 30 mm diameter hole in garnish panel only for the shoulder belt anchor bolt from the back surface side of the garnish.
5) Reinstall garnish panel.

6) Reinstall original shoulder anchor bolt (torque of 400-560 kg-cm, 28-30 ft.lbs.) through the new hole of the garnish panel and reinstall the anchor cover.



7) The original (upper) anchorage hole in the garnish may be covered with a hole plug. Part No.s of the hole plug are listed below.

1) Remove shoulder belt anchor cover and remove anchor bolt.

2) Remove hole plug which is located approximately 2" below the original anchor position.

3) Reinstall original shoulder anchor bolt (torque of 400 - 560 kg-cm, 28 - 39 ft.lbs.) through the lower hole and reinstall the anchor cover.

4) The original (upper) anchorage hole may be covered with the original hole plug which is removed in Step 2).
