DESCRIPTION

It has been found that there is some confusion among customers and service personnel about the 1988 929 Audio System. This Service Bulletin is to explain the proper operation of the 929 audio system, especially about the rear speakers.

1. Characteristics of the Rear Speaker

Two rear speakers are installed to reinforce the bass. These are called Woofers and are not designed to respond to a wide range frequency as the front speakers do. Therefore, the rear speaker's volumeis considerably lower than those on the rear doors and front dashboard. Especially under the following conditions:

a) Bass control knob is in a weak position (knob is turned counterclockwise).

b) No bass is in the program.

2. Sound Balance Adjustment of the Front and Rear Speakers

a) Panasonic System (without CD system)

The front and rear balance can be adjusted by turning the fader control knob. In addition, the bass control knob gives you an extra adjustment for the rear speakers.

b) Pioneer System (with CD system)

Although this system is not equipped with fader control, the front and rear balance can be adjusted by turning the Acoustic Equilibration Control (AEC) knob. Refer to the 1988 929 Owner's Manual, page 347 and 3-48.

Turning the knob clockwise raises the woofer (rear speaker) volume.

Turning the knob counterclockwise lowers the woofer (rear speaker) volume.
