DESCRIPTION

The 1988 929 features a two-antenna reception system called FM Diversity Reception. This system compares the signals between the conventional pole antenna and a special grid sub-antenna. This sub-antenna grid is located on the top portion of the rear window and is similar in appearance to the defroster filament. The radio selects the best of the two signals received by both antennas for optimum reception.

NOTE:
1986-88 RX-7 has a similar system except that sub-antenna is embedded in front windshield.

If the customer should express concern that the FM reception is not satisfactory or has been reduced, check both antennas as follows.

Replace the pole antenna if it is defective. If the sub-antenna grid is broken, repair the grid as you would repair a filament of rear window defroster. (Refer to 1988 929 Workshop Manual, page 15-63.)

Also remember to use care when removing, installing, or sealing the 929 rear window. Piano wire or removal cord can catch on connector spades, cut wiring, etc. Avoid these problems by taking extra care in the connector areas.
