Fig. 15 Under cover tightening sequence:
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Raise and support vehicle, then drain transmission fluid.
3. Remove transmission dipstick pipe, then the shift rod.
3. Remove front exhaust pipe with catalytic converter, then the heat insulator.
4. Scribe alignment marks on propeller shaft flanges, then remove propeller shaft. Immediately after removing propeller shaft, install tool 49S120440 or equivalent into extension housing.
5. Disconnect speedometer cable at transmission, then remove starter.
6. Disconnect electrical connectors at inhibitor switch, turbine sensor, lockup solenoid and solenoid valve.
7. Disconnect oil pipes and vacuum pipe and plug oil hoses.
8. Remove under cover.
9. Support transmission with suitable jack, then remove transmission mount attaching bolts and the lower transmission attaching bolts.
10. Remove remaining transmission attaching bolts, then the transmission.
11. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Torque transmission mount attaching bolts to 14-21 ft.lbs.
b. Torque transmission attaching bolts to 27-38 ft.lbs.
c. Loosely and equally tighten torque converter bolts, then torque them to 25-36 ft.lbs. When using tool 490877435 to tighten bolts, torque to minimum specification.
d. Torque transmission mount installation bolts to 29-42 ft.lbs.
e. Install under cover, torquing bolts in alphabetical order, Fig. 15, to 69-95 inch lbs.
f. Torque oil and vacuum pipes attaching bolts and nuts to 69-95 inch lbs.
g. Torque starter mounting bolts to 23-34 ft.lbs. and the cable securing nut to 87-104 inch lbs.
h. Align propeller shaft match marks and torque attaching bolts to 36-43 ft.lbs.
i. Torque propeller shaft center bearing support attaching bolts to 27-38 ft.lbs.
j. Torque exhaust pipe attaching nuts to 23-34 ft.lbs. and the bracket bolt to 12-17 ft.lbs.
k. Torque dipstick pipe bracket attaching bolt to 14-19 ft.lbs.
