Rear Steering Gear

Troubleshooting Rear Steering Gear

REAR WHEELS ARE NOT STEERED
1. Turn ignition switch ON with engine off and check if 4WS light is illuminated. If not, problem is in fuse, bulb, wiring harness or control unit.
2. If light illuminated in step 1, start engine. If light remains illuminated, problem is in an electrical component.
3. If light went out in step 2, check steering effort.
4. If steering effort is not heavy, adjust steering angle transfer shaft, then check movement of rear wheels. If movement of rear wheels is unsatisfactory, replace rear steering gear.
5. If steering effort was heavy in step 3, check power steering pump and drive belt and check for fluid leakage, repairing as necessary.
6. If everything appears to be satisfactory, check operation of steering angle transfer shaft, replacing as necessary. If operation of shaft is satisfactory, replace rear steering gear.

INCORRECT REAR TURNING ANGLE
1. Adjust steering angle transfer shaft.
2. Check rear turning angle.
3. If turning angle is not within specifications, replace rear steering gear.
