Category Applicable Model/s Subject Bulletin No.. 051/87
15 1988 RX-7 NEW STYLE WIRING DIAGRAM Issued 10/12/87
Revised
DESCRIPTION

A new style of wiring diagram will be featured for the 1988 RX-7. This type of diagram will later be adopted for use on all 1989 Mazda vehicles, but will be ONLY for RX-7 in 1988.

Main improvements of the new style diagram are as follows:

1. X-connectors (common connectors) are shown in each section for easier understanding.
2. Harness color of wiring diagram is eliminated so that harness color and actual wire color cannot be confused.
3. Current flow from other sections is shown to indicate inputs and outputs.
4. Information on how to read specifications of resistances, diodes, and transistors is shown so that the electrical circuit may be more easily understood.
5. Designations of wire colors are changed for better understanding.

Example:

Wire Color Old Format 1988 RX-7 Format

Light Blue Lb LB

Red w/ green stripe RG R/G

6. Connector identification incorporates harness symbol.

Example:
F-20 (Front harness connector) I-01 (Instrument panel harness connector)

7. A "grid" system is used to locate positions of connections and harness similar to a road map.

The new style of wiring diagram is being done by CAD (Computer-Aided Design) for better quality and reduced preparation time.
NOTE:
1. The new 1988 RX-7 Wiring Diagram and 1988 RX-7 Workshop Manual will differ because the new format will be used in the Wiring Diagram book ONLY. The Workshop Manual will continue with the former style colors, details, connectors, etc. Therefore, pay special attention to the differences, especially if the two books are being used together for servicing.
2. All 1988 models except RX-7 will continue with the former style and format of Wiring Diagram similar to 1987.
3. The Wiring Diagrams will not be included in any 1988 Workshop Manual.
