Throttle Position Sensor: Testing and Inspection
TERMINAL VOLTAGE AND RESISTANCE1. Remove the rubber boot from the connector.
2. Turn the ignition switch on.
Throttle Sensor Voltage Inspection:
Throttle Sensor Terminal Identification:
3. Check the voltage between each terminal and ground.
4. Open the throttle valve and check the voltage between each terminal and ground. Compare the readings to the following chart.
Reference Chart:
5. If not correct on terminal "D", check the throttle sensor setting.
6. If not correct at others, check the resistances of the throttle sensor and voltages of terminals "1E", "2A", "2C", and "2G" of the engine control unit.
7. Install the rubber boot to the connector.
8. Disconnect the connector from the throttle sensor.
Throttle Sensor Resistance Inspection:
9. Check the resistance between the terminals as shown in the following chart.
Reference Chart:
10. Open the throttle valve fully and check resistances between the terminals.
11. If not correct, replace the throttle sensor.
THROTTLE SENSOR ADJUSTMENT
Throttle Sensor Resistance Inspection:
Buzzer Connected To Throttle Sensor:
1. Connect the throttle sensor adjustment tool (Mazda Part# 49 9200 165) to the throttle sensor using the adapter (Mazda Part# 49 9200 166). If the special tool and adapter are not available, use an ohmmeter.
Thickness Gauge Inserted Behind Stop Screw:
2. Using the following chart for proper thickness, insert a thickness gauge between the throttle stop screw and the stop lever.
Reference Chart:
3. If the throttle sensor readings do not match the chart, adjust the sensor.
