DISASSEMBLY-STEP 4
Disassemble in the sequence shown in the image.




Idle Gear
1. Secure the idle gear in a vise.
2. Uncrimp the tab of the lock nut.
3. Remove the lock nut.

NOTE: Use pads in the vise.




4. Remove the retaining ring.




5. lap the bearing and remove the side cover (B) and bearing.




6. Remove the bearing from the side cover (B) using a suitable pipe.




Transfer Carrier
Position the SST and mount the transfer carrier.




Adjustment Screw
1. Make matching marks on the carrier and caps.
2. Remove the bolts, lock plates, and bearing caps.




3. Remove the adjustment screw.




Differential Gear
Remove the differential gear.

NOTE: For proper reassembly, identify the bearing outer race.




Drive Pinion
1. Remove the locknut with the SST.




2. Remove the companion flange with the SST.














3. Push the drive pin ion out by attaching a miscellaneous locknut to the drive pinion and tapping it with a copper hammer.




4. Remove the collapsible spacer.




5. Remove the bearing with the SST.

CAUTION: Support the drive pinion by hand so that it does not fall.

6. Remove the spacer.




Bearing Outer Race (Carrier)
1. Using a brass drift and hammer, drive out the bearing.
2. Remove the bearing outer races by using the two grooves in the carrier and tapping the races alternately.




Bearing Inner Race (Differential gear)
1. Remove the bearing inner race with the SST.

NOTE:
a. Do not disassemble the bearing inner race unless necessary.
b. For proper reassembly, identify the bearing inner race.




2. Remove the bearing inner race with the SST.

NOTE:
a. Do not disassemble the bearing inner race unless necessary.
