Triple Induction Control System (TICS)

SYSTEM INSPECTION

1. Warm up the engine to the normal operating temperature and run it at idle.

Swirl Control Valve Actuator At Idle:

2. Check that the rod is pulled into the swirl control valve actuator at idle.

Swirl Control Valve Actuator Above 4,000 RPM:

3. Gradually increase the engine speed and check that the rod extends above approx. 4,000 rpm.

VACUUM SIGNAL

1. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the swirl control valve actuator.

Swirl Control Valve Actuator Vacuum Source:

2. Place a finger over the hose and check that vacuum is felt at idle.
3. Gradually increase the engine speed, and check that no vacuum is felt above approx. 4,000 rpm.
4. Connect the vacuum hose to the actuator.

ELECTRICAL SIGNAL

TICS Solenoid Valve Voltmeter Connection:

1. Connect a voltmeter to the solenoid valve (TICS)(LR).
2. Gradually increase the engine speed, and check the voltmeter reading.

ENGINE SPEED VOLTAGE

Above approx. 4,000 rpm Approx. 12 volts
Idle Below 2.0 volts

3. Disconnect the voltmeter.

SOLENOID VALVE (TICS)

1. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the solenoid valve.

Solenoid Valve -- No Voltage Applied:

2. Blow through the solenoid valve from hose "B" and check that air flows from the valve air filter.

Solenoid Valve -- Voltage Applied:

3. Disconnect the solenoid valve connector and connect 12 volts and a ground to the terminals of the solenoid valve.
4. Blow through the solenoid valve from hose "B". Check that the air passes through the solenoid valve and flows from port "A".

SWIRL CONTROL VALVE ACTUATOR

Swirl Control Valve Actuator Rod Movement:

1. Connect a vacuum pump to the actuator.
2. Apply 200 mmHg (7.88 inHg) vacuum and check that the rod is pulled fully into the actuator.
3. Replace if necessary.

SWIRL CONTROL VALVE

1. Remove the swirl control valve actuator.

Swirl Control Valve Linkage Movement:

2. Check that the rod moves smoothly.
3. Replace the intake manifold assembly, if necessary.
