Compressor Does Not Run (Magnetic Clutch Does Not Engage)

COMPRESSOR DOES NOT RUN (MAGNETIC CLUTCH DOES NOT ENGAGE)

Normal Operation of Magnetic Clutch
There are two different ranges of operation for the magnetic clutch. The "ECO" feature includes an additional higher temperature operating range which allows the compressor to stay off for longer periods. Therefore, the "ECO" feature allows greater fuel economy and less cycling of the compressor. The "ECO" setting allows the compressor to cycle on and off within a second range of temperatures detected in the evaporator

Step 1

Connect a manifold gauge set and observe the refrigerant pressure.

Note: The ambient temperature must be 10°C (50°F) or above.

Step 2

Check that the fuses shown above are OK.

Step 3

Start the engine. Turn blower switch ON. And turn the A/C switch ON, and push 'ECO" switch ON and OFF.

Checking result:
1. If the magnetic clutch does not operate, go to Step 4.
2. If the magnetic clutch operates when the "ECO" switch is in the position that allows the clutch to remain off, then go to Step 4.

Step 4

Check the voltage at terminal-wire (G/W) of FAC2-O1 connector.

Step 5

Ground and then unground the following wires at connector FAC2-O1.

Step 6

Ground and then unground terminal-wires at thermoswitch connector AC-02.
Logic-control switch panel: (G/B), (G/W), (G/R), (L/Y)
Wire-control switch panel: (G/B), (G/W), (G/R)

Step 7 (with wire-control switch panel)

Ground and then unground the following terminal-wires
A/C switch connector AC-O1: (G/W), (G/R), (L/G), (L/Y)

Step 8

Disconnect pressure switch No.1 connector AC2-1O and connect a jumper wire across the terminal.

Step 9

Start engine and turn A/C switch ON.
Check for voltage at terminal-wire (G/B) of the magnetic clutch.

Step 10

Disconnect the magnetic clutch lead wire (G/B), and check resistance of the magnetic coil with an ohmmeter.
Resistance: 2.7 - 3.1 Ohms at 20°C (68°F)
If not specified, replace the magnetic clutch.

Step 11
Inspection of relay (A/C relay)
1. Disconnect the connector from the relay.

2. Check for continuity between terminals 3 and 4 with an ohmmeter.

3. Apply 12V to terminal 1 and ground terminal 2. Check for continuity between terminals 3 and 4 with an ohmmeter.
