Idle Speed/Throttle Actuator - Electronic: Testing and Inspection

SYSTEM INSPECTION

BAC Valve Inspection:

AIR VALVE

1. With engine cold and idling, disconnect ISC valve electrical connector.
2. Note engine speed (rpm) and replace connector.
3. Warm engine to operating temperature and again unplug connector.
4. When connector is unplugged, engine speed should decrease more with engine warm than when it is cold.

ISC VALVE

5. Connect ISC valve connector.

NOTE: Ensure that test connector is not grounded and idle speed is set to 750 ± 50 rpm (manual trans. in neutral, automatic trans. in "P").

6. Again disconnect electrical plug with engine at normal operating temperature.
7. Check that engine speed decreases. Replace connector.

BAC VALVE TESTING

AIR VALVE

Bypass Air Control Valve:

1. Remove BAC valve from throttle body.
2. With valve cold, blow through port "A" and check that air exits port "B."
3. If not as specified, replace BAC valve.

ISC VALVE

ISC Valve Testing:

1. Disconnect ISC valve connector.
2. Check resistance across valve terminals. At operating temperature, resistance should be 6.3 - 9.9 ohms.
3. If not as specified, replace BAC valve.
