Timing Belt Removal and Installation
- Install in the reverse order of removal referring to the Installation Notes below.Installation Notes:
Timing belt auto-tensioner:
1. Set a plane washer at the bottom of the tensioner body to prevent damage to the body plug.
2. Press in the tensioner rod slowly using a press or vice.
Caution: Do not press the tensioner rod more than 9,810 N (1,000 kg, 2,200 lb).
3. Insert a pin to hold the tensioner rod in the body as shown.
4. Install the auto-tensioner onto the cylinder block.
Tightening torque: 19 - 25 Nm (1.9 - 2.6 m-kg, 14 - 19 ft-lb)
Timing Belt:
1. Align the timing marks A for the exhaust side and B for the intake side as shown.
2. Install the timing belt in the order specified.
(1) Timing belt (crankshaft) pulley
(2) Idler No.1
(3) LH camshaft pulley (EX)
(4) LH camshaft pulley (IN)
(5) Tensioner pulley
(6) RH camshaft pulley (EX)
(7) RH camshaft pulley (IN)
3. Push the belt down and install idler pulley No. 2.
Tightening torque: 43 - 61 Nm (4.4 - 6.2 m-kg, 32 - 45 ft-lb)
4. Verify that the timing mark of each pulley is aligned after installation of idler pulley No.2.
5. Turn the crankshaft twice in the direction of rotation, and realign the timing marks.
6. Verify that the timing marks A for the exhaust side and B for the intake side are correctly aligned. If necessary, repeat Steps 1 - 5.
7. Remove the pin from the auto tensioner.
8. Again turn the crankshaft twice and realign the timing marks.
9. Check the timing belt deflection.
Timing belt deflection:
6 - 8 mm (0.24 - 0.31 in)/98 N (10 kg, 22 lb)
Caution: Be sure not to apply tension other than that of the auto tensioner.
10. If the deflection is not correct, check the timing belt auto tensioner and replace if necessary.
High tension lead and spark plug:
1. Apply anti-seize compound or molybdenum-based lubricant to the spark plug threads.
2. Install the spark plugs.
Tightening torque: 13 - 18 Nm (1.3 - 1.8 m-kg, 9 - 13 ft-lb)
3. Install the high-tension lead.
Steps After Installation:
1. Fill the radiator and coolant reservoir with the specified amount and type of engine coolant.
2. Perform the necessary engine adjustments.
