Throttle Position Sensor: Testing and Inspection
Throttle Sensor:
RESISTANCE CHECK
1. Disconnect throttle sensor connector.
2. Measure resistance between terminals "A" and "D." It should be 3 - 6K ohms.
3. Connect an ohmmeter across terminals "B" and "D." Gradually open throttle and check resistance. It should be 0.2 - 0.6K ohms with throttle fully closed and 3.3 - 7.0K ohms with throttle fully open.
4. If not as specified, adjust throttle sensor and recheck. Refer to ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURES.
5. If still out of specification after adjustment, replace throttle sensor.
IDLE SWITCH CHECK
Idle Switch Testing:
1. Disconnect throttle sensor connector.
2. Connect an ohmmeter across terminals "C" and "D."
3. Insert a 0.004 in (0.1 mm) feeler gauge between throttle stopper screw and throttle valve lever. Ensure that continuity exists.
4. Replace first gauge with a 0.012 in (0.3 mm) gauge. Ensure that continuity does not exist.
5. If not as specified, adjust throttle sensor and recheck. Refer to ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURES.
6. If still out of specification after adjustment, replace throttle sensor.
