FRONT BRAKE SQUEALING NOISE

All 1988 through 1991 929 vehicles.
DESCRIPTION
A squealing noise may be heard from some vehicles during brake application.
New brake pads are available that eliminate the squealing noise.
If a customer complains of a squealing noise when applying the brakes inspect and repair the vehicle according to this bulletin.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
Verify complaint is coming from the front of the vehicle.
^ If the noise is coming from the front brakes, install new pads.
^ If the noise is not coming from the brakes, refer to the workshop manual or NVH manual for diagnostic and repair information.

NOTE:
1. The repair described in this bulletin is covered under the new vehicle warranty for 36 months/50,000 miles. To process your warranty claim properly, you must use the Process Number (shown above) when submitting a claim through a MDCS terminal.
2. This process number is not applicable to normal wear and tear of the brake pad. If the repair is performed after the 12 months from the in-service date or after 12.000 miles you must inspect the remaining thickness of the removed pad. Refer to Fig. 1
3. If the remaining thickness is less than 3.0mm (0.1in) it is considered normal wear and tear and pad replacement is not covered under warranty.
4. Your DCSM may inspect the remaining thickness of the replaced pad during the next visit. If the DCSM determines that the repair or claim is not proper, the claim may be denied.
