DTC 40

TICS/Oxygen Sensor Circuit Testing:






Code 40 can indicate an open circuit in either the TICS solenoid valve or oxygen sensor heater. Use the following procedure to determine which component is at fault:

1. Warm engine to operating temperature and switch ignition "OFF."
2. Connect Mazda Self-Diagnosis Connector (or suitable aftermarket "Scan" tool) to check connector (Green: 6-pin) and negative battery terminal.
3. Connect jumper wire between test connector (Green: 1-pin) and ground.
4. Disconnect oxygen sensor connector and switch ignition "ON." Check that code 40 is not displayed. If code 40 is displayed, check TICS solenoid valve as described on Diagnostic Chart.
5. Turn ignition "OFF." Connect oxygen sensor connector and disconnect TICS solenoid connector.
6. Turn ignition "ON" and check that code 40 is not displayed. If code 40 is displayed, check oxygen sensor heater as described on Diagnostic Chart.
