Tie-Rod End

1. Mark the Tie-Rod End for reference during installation before loosing.

Tie-Rod





1. Uncrimp the washer.
2. Remove the tie-rod with the SST.

Locknut and Adjusting Cover





1. Remove the locknut with the SST.
2. Remove the adjusting cover with the SST.

Pinion Shaft Assembly





1. Set a plate on the head of the pinion shaft and tap it with a plastic hammer.

Upper Bearing and Oil Seal





1. Press out the upper bearing and the oil seal with the SST.

Rack Stop





1. Turn the rack stop with snap-ring pliers until the end of the clip comes out.
2. Turn the rack stop in the opposite direction to remove the clip, and remove the rack stopper.

Rack





1. Install the SST over the rack end.
2. Pull out the rack from the housing side.

Lower Bearing





1. Drive the lower bearing out ot the housing with the SST.

Needle Bearing





1. Set the SST (handle) through the adjusting cover hole.
2. Set the SST (body) against the SST in Step 1.





3. Press out the needle bearing with the SST.

INSPECTION

Rack






1. Inspect for cracking, damage and tooth wear, replace as necessary.
2. Measure runout of the rack.

Runout limit: O.4mm (0.016 in) max.

3. If not within specification, replace the rack.
