Subject:
RUBBING NOISE FRONT OF ENGINE
DESCRIPTION
A rubbing noise may be heard from the front of the engine on some 1990 Protege models.
This could be caused by the timing belt contacting the seal plate inner cover.
A redesigned seal plate inner cover has been used in production since May 1, 1990 (see VIN below).
Vehicles built prior to May 1, 1990 having this symptom should have the seal plate inner cover inspected for signs of contact. If contact is apparent, replace the seal plate inner cover with the redesigned one.
Inspect related parts for wear and damage. Replace as necessary.
