Lack of Power, Sluggish

Mazda recommends the use of UNLEADED REGULAR gasoline only, in all vehicles not equipped with a turbocharger, unless otherwise specified. Do not use, or recommend for use, any higher octane fuels. Starting, idle, and driveability problems may result. See factory Technical Service Bulletin #405489, titled "USE OF REGULAR UNLEADED GASOLINE".

Definition: Engine delivers less than expected power. Little or no increase in speed, when accelerator pedal is pushed down part way.

POSSIBLE CAUSE ACTION

Contaminated fuel Drain fuel tank and add clean fuel

Lead contamination Check for missing fill pipe restrictor
of catalytic converter Replace catalytic converter

Low fuel pressure Check fuel pressure.

Pinched or collapsed fuel hose/line Repair/replace as required

Throttle valve not fully opening Check accelerator pedal travel
(Floor mat/carpet interference)

Dirty air filter Clean or replace

Plugged or restricted fuel injector(s) Check fuel injectors
Poor injector spray pattern

Restricted exhaust system Check exhaust system, repair or replace as necessary
