Cranks Normally But Won't Start

Mazda recommends the use of UNLEADED REGULAR gasoline only, in all vehicles not equipped with a turbocharger, unless otherwise specified. Do not use, or recommend for use, any higher octane fuels. Starting, idle, and driveability problems may result. See factory Technical Service Bulletin #405489, titled "USE OF REGULAR UNLEADED GASOLINE".

Definition: Engine cranks OK, but does not start. May fire a few times.

POSSIBLE CAUSE ACTION

Restricted fuel filter Check fuel filter

No fuel in tank Put fuel in fuel tank

Water contaminated fuel Drain fuel tank and add clean fuel

Low fuel pressure See FUEL PUMP AND PRESSURE REGULATOR (SYSTEM PRESSURE CHECKS) under COMPONENT TESTING

Pinched or collapsed fuel hose/line Repair/replace as required

Inoperative fuel pump Verify fuse/fuse link integrity
Check fuel pump and fuel pump relay
