Crankshaft Position Sensor: Description and Operation
The crank angle sensor in the electronic ignition system distributor generates signals monitored by the ECU. "G1" and "G2" signals detect #1 and #4 cylinders TDC and are used by the ECU to calculate fuel injection and ignition timing.
"Ne" signal is an engine speed (rpm) signal that detects crank angle at 30° intervals. It is utilized by the ECU in its control calculations for several output devices:
^ Fuel injection timing and quantity
^ Idle speed control valve
^ EGR vent solenoid valve
^ EGR vacuum solenoid valve
^ Purge control solenoid valve
^ Pressure regulator control solenoid valve
^ Wastegate solenoid valve
^ Ignition timing control (igniter)
