Stabilizer Bar: Service and Repair
1. Raise and support vehicle and remove under cover.2. Remove stabilizer attaching nuts and bolts with the retainers, bushings and spacer.
3. Remove stabilizer brackets and bushings, then the stabilizer.
4. Check stabilizer for bending or damage, replacing as necessary.
5. Check stabilizer bushings for deterioration or wear, replacing as necessary.
6. Check retainers, spacers and bolts for bending or damage, replacing as necessary.
7. Inspect bushings for deterioration or wear, replacing as necessary.
8. Reverse procedure to install noting the following:
a. Install stabilizer bushing and align bushing with stabilizer installation mark (yellow line).
b. Install stabilizer bracket and temporarily tighten bolt.
c. Lower vehicle and torque bolt to specification with vehicle unloaded.
d. On 1989-91 models, tighten stabilizer nuts so that there is 5.98 inches (152mm) of thread exposed at top of bolt.
e. On all models, torque stabilizer attaching bolts and bracket bolts to specifications.
