Subject
ENGINE VALVE TRAIN NOISE

DESCRIPTION

Some six (6) cylinder 1989-'92 MPV JE and 1988-'91 929 SOHC engines may experience valve train noise for approximately one (1) minute after starting. This may be caused by air being trapped in the Hydraulic Lash Adjuster (HLA).

To prevent air from being trapped in the HLA, the rocker arm shafts have been redesigned to increase oil flow.

Redesigned shafts have been used in MPV models starting September 3, 1991. No production change was made on 1988-'91 929 models with SOHC. 929 models exhibiting valve train noise or MPV models which were produced prior to September 3, 1991 with this same problem should have the redesigned shafts installed.
