Fuel Filter: Description and Operation
Fuel Filter:
The fuel filter, located under the rear of the vehicle behind a shield, is a high pressure metal canister with paper element. This filter removes even microscopic particles from fuel. Because of high fuel pressures, small particles can erode fuel injector and pressure regulator sealing surfaces, causing injector leaks and fuel pressure loss. Larger particles can plug injector orifices and restrict fuel flow. If particles collect at injector sealing surfaces, complete fuel shut off may not be possible.
A nylon filter "sock" is located at the pump fuel pick-up inside the gas tank.
