Air Cleaner Housing: Description and Operation

Intake Air System:

^ The air cleaner assembly contains a paper filter element that removes dirt and dust particles from intake air.
^ Two resonance chambers are connected to intake air ducts. Chamber #1 is a silencer connected ahead of the air cleaner to reduce intake noise. Chamber #2 increases intake system volume between air cleaner and throttle body. This takes advantage of harmonic oscillations within the intake system to improve volumetric efficiency at low engine speeds and increase low speed torque. It also reduces air flow sensor "flapping" during idle and low speed operation.
^ Other intake system components include the throttle body, bypass air control valve, air hoses, and ducts.
