A/T - G4A-EL Engine Stalls In Gear/TCC Stays Locked-up

TRANSMISSION: G4A-EL

BULLETIN: # 034

SUBJECT: Lock-Up Stays On

DATE: January 1991

G4A-EL

Kills The Engine In Gear

A leaking lock-up circuit can cause the torque converter clutch to remain applied *. To correct this problem 1st check the lock-up solenoid for leakage. The lock-up solenoid is normally closed. When applying air it should not leak. The next thing to do is air check the valve body. Apply air to the valve body as show in the picture below to check for leaks.

* This condition will cause the engine to stall when placing transaxle in gear.

BULLETIN RECAP

^ Make sure the solenoid doesn't leak.
^ Air check the body.
^ Drill the lock-up feed to .040.

If everything checks OK, drill the lock-up solenoid feed hole in the separator plate to .040" (figure 2).
