Power Door Locks - Stick In the Up or Down Position

POWER DOOR LOCKS STICK


DESCRIPTION

Some power door lock controllers on Protege models may stick in the up or down position. This is caused by a binding door lock controller.

Modified door lock controllers have been used on production vehicles starting November 1, 1990. Install the modified door lock controllers in vehicles produced prior to November 1, 1990 that experience this problem.

NOTE:

^ The door lock knob on driver's side activates door lock controllers in all doors.
^ A door lock controller that is stuck does not affect the operation of other controllers.
^ If a door lock controller is stuck, the key and door lock knob may require more force.





The modified door lock controllers are identified by the build-date. See the example of the serial number for build-date code breakdown. Figure 1.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Remove the door lock controller.

2. Install the modified door lock controller. Test the door locks.

3. Reinstall the door screen and trim panel.
