WEAK TRUNK LID SPRINGS
DESCRIPTION
The trunk lid on some 1990-'91 323/Protege models may not remain fully open due to the weight of the & lid and the strength of the trunk springs. If a customer expresses concem over this, install new (stronger) balance springs as described in this bulletin.

REPAIR PROCEDURE
WARNING:
We recommend wearing safety goggles and using "Vise-Grips" when removing balance springs. Balance springs are under tension. If spring tension is suddenly released, damage to vehicle or personal injury may result.
Figure 1:
1. Replace balance spring. See page S-34 of the appropriate Workshop Manual. Figure 1.

2. Adjust tension of the balance springs as shown. Figure 2.
3. If trunk lid still drops, move the right (passenger's side) spring to position "B" in the bracket.
