Variable Dynamic Effect Intake (VDI) System
Variable Dynamic Effect Intake (VDI) System:
SYSTEM CHECK
Output voltage at ECU terminal 2M to the VDI solenoid can only be checked on a road test or dynamometer. At engine speeds above 5200 rpm, the solenoid should be energized with terminal voltage below 2.0V. Below 5200 rpm, terminal voltage should be approximately 12V.
ACTUATOR
Actuator Testing:
1. Remove vacuum hose from actuator and attach a pressure gauge and "T" fitting as shown.
2. Apply low air pressure of 2.8 psi (2.0 kPa). Actuator arm should extend and move VDI valve operating lever.
3. If not as specified, replace actuator.
VDI SOLENOID VALVE
Solenoid Switching Valve:
1. Disconnect vacuum hose from solenoid valve.
2. Blow through hose "A" and check that air flows from the air filter.
3. Remove valve electrical connector.
4. Connect 12V and a ground to valve terminals.
5. Blow through hose "A" and check that air flows from port "B."
6. If not as specified, replace valve.
