Fast Idle

NOTE: Engine coolant and throttle body must be at the correct temperature (77°F/25°C) when performing this adjustment procedure.

Fast Idle Cam Assembly:

Fast Idle Cam Assembly:

1. Check alignment of cam roller with matching mark on fast idle cam.

^ Center of cam roller should align with the first mark on the fast idle cam, as shown in illustration.

Adjusting Fast Idle Cam Position:

If not, turn cam adjusting screw until cam and roller are properly aligned.

Measuring Primary Throttle Valve Clearance:

2. With the cam roller and matching mark properly aligned, measure the clearance between the primary throttle valve and its bore. Clearance should be as specified below.

0.016" - 0.020" (0.4mm - 0.5mm)

Adjusting Fast Idle Throttle Valve Clearance:

If clearance is not correct, turn fast idle adjustment screw to obtain the correct throttle valve position.

3. Start engine and warm up to operating temperature.

4. Check that thermowax actuator extends fully and fast idle cam no longer touches roller on throttle lever.

If not, replace thermowax actuator.
