Crankshaft Position Sensor: Description and Operation
Crank Angle Sensor:
The crank angle sensor, located at left front of the engine assembly, is the magnetic pick-up type. The eccentric shaft driven sensor shaft rotates a reluctor (signal rotor) past pick-up coils, generating two signals utilized by the ECU in its calculations for ignition timing, injection timing and other outputs. The "Ne" signal detects eccentric shaft position at 30° intervals and the "G" signal detects front rotor position. The eccentric shaft corresponds to crankshaft in piston engines. Spark advance is ECU controlled without centrifugal or vacuum advance mechanisms.
