Manifold Pressure/Vacuum Sensor: Description and Operation
The Pressure Sensor, located in the engine compartment attached to the front of the right strut tower, detects changes in intake manifold pressure resulting from engine load and speed changes. The sensor converts these changes into an ECU voltage input signal.
The sensor measures manifold absolute pressure, the opposite of engine manifold vacuum. A closed throttle on deceleration produces low absolute pressure while wide open throttle results in high absolute pressure.
Pressure sensor input is utilized by the ECU in its calculations for these outputs:
Fuel injection quantity
Air injection system
Turbo boost pressure
Ignition timing
