Throttle Position Sensor: Description and Operation
The Throttle Sensor, located on the intake manifold near the throttle valve, detects throttle valve opening angle. The sensor consists of two separate potentiometer circuits, one for narrow range and one for full range, that receive a reference voltage from the ECU. Return voltage is calculated by the ECU to determine throttle position. The ranges affect ECU calculations for various outputs, some in common and some unique to each range.
Narrow range:
Fuel injection quantity
Fuel pump resistor relay
Secondary air injection
Pressure regulator solenoid valve
BAC valve
Ignition timing control
Full range:
Fuel injection quantity
A/C relay/cut-off
Secondary air injection
AWS and ASV solenoid valve
Turbo boost pressure duty solenoid
Ignition timing control
