HESITATION ON ACCELERATION

DESCRIPTION

Some 1989-'91 RX-7 Turbo owners may complain of engine hesitation. This occurs during hard acceleration between 3,500-4,000 rpm. Enlarging the hole in the wastegate orifice will eliminate this problem. A modified ECU installed during production since August 23, 1990 helps correct this problem.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Verify that all emission components are functioning properly. Use a Self-Diagnosis Checker (49 H0189A1) to check for malfunction codes.

2. Remove the orifice in the turbocharger wastegate vacuum hose circuit. Figure 1.

3. Enlarge the orifice to 2 mm (.080 in).

NOTE:
Do not enlarge the orifice to more than 2 mm (.080 in). Doing so may lower power.

4. Reinstall the orifice.
