Idle Speed

NOTE: Because idle speed is ECU controlled through the idle speed control (ISC) solenoid valve, it is not usually necessary to check and adjust idle speed.

1. Warm engine to operating temperature. Check engine condition (spark plugs, leaks in hoses, etc.).
2. Turn all electrical loads OFF.

3. Connect Mazda SST #49 B019 9A0 to diagnosis connector.

NOTE: If SST is not used, jump across TEN and GND terminals of diagnostic connector.

CAUTION: Use care when making connections to the diagnosis connector. Improper connection will cause a malfunction.

4. Connect tachometer to diagnosis connector IG- terminal.
5. Set SST switch "A" to position 1.
6. Set TEST SW to SELF-TEST.
7. Apply parking brake.
8. Check that idle speed is within specification.

Note: Idle speed for automatic transmission model is approximately 800 rpm when parking brake is NOT APPLIED.

750 ± 50 rpm (Neutral or P range)

NOTE: Check idle speed without electric cooling fan operating.

9. If not within specification, adjust by turning air adjusting screw.
10. After adjustment, disconnect SST or jumper wire.
