Subject
BRAKE PEDAL PULSATION / SQUEALING NOISE (FRONT BRAKES)

This bulletin was originally issued in 1993 in Category P, No. 001/93 on 7/23/93 (revised). The information in this bulletin supersedes all previously issued bulletins and the information contained.

APPLICABLE MODELS/VINS

DESCRIPTION
On some vehicles, brake pedal pulsation may occur or a squealing noise may be heard during braking.

REPAIR PROCEDURE
A new pad has been established for brake pedal pulsation or squealing noise conditions.

1. If squealing noise exists during braking, replace the brake pads with new brake pads.
2. If brake pulsation exists during braking, replace the brake pads with the new brake pads and machine the disc plate/brake rotors. A new disc plate/brake rotor has a thickness of 22 mm (0.87 in.) The minimum allowed disc plate/brake rotor is 20 mm (0.79 in.).

CAUTION:
BE AWARE OF THE MINIMUM ALLOWED THICKNESS (STAMPED ON THE SURFACE) WHEN MACHINING THE DISC PLATE/BRAKE ROTOR. If the thickness is below the minimum allowed, replace the affected disc plate(s)/brake rotor(s). Brake removal and installation procedures are outlined in Section P of the workshop manual.

NOTE:
1. The repair described in this Service Bulletin is covered under the new vehicle warranty for 36 months/50,000 miles. To process your warranty claim properly, you must use the Process Number (shown above) when submitting a claim via MDCS terminal.

2. This Process Number is not applicable to normal wear and tear of the brake pad. If the repair is performed after 12 months from the in-service date or after 12,000 miles, you must inspect the remaining thickness of the removed pad. If the remaining thickness of the pad is less than 3.0 mm (0.1 in.), it is considered normal wear and tear and only rotor machining (or replacement, if necessary) is covered under warranty. Pad replacement is not covered under warranty.

3. Your DCSM may inspect the remaining thickness of the replaced pads during the next visit and if the DCSM determines that the repair or claim is not proper, the claim may be denied.
