Transaxle Replace

Fig. 3 Exploded View Of Transaxle Replacement:





Refer to Fig. 3, when replacing transaxle.
1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
2. Raise and support vehicle.
3. Drain ATF into suitable container.
4. Remove righthand side wheel and tire, then the splash shield.
5. Remove air hose and resonance chamber, then the battery and battery carrier.
6. Disconnect speedometer cable, then the inhibitor switch connector.
7. Disconnect solenoid valve connector, then the throttle cable.
8. Remove starter motor.
9. Support engine assembly using engine support tool No. 49G0175A0 or equivalent, then remove engine support crossmember.
10. Disconnect front exhaust pipe, then remove oil pan.
11. Remove engine mount No. 2.
12. Remove tie rod end using tie rod removal tool No. 490118850C or equivalent.
13. Remove stabilizer, then the driveshaft.
14. Remove oil cooler inlet and outlet hoses.
15. Remove transaxle to engine attaching bolts, then lower transaxle to ground.
16. Reverse procedure to install noting the following:
a. Torque transaxle to engine attaching bolts to 41-59 ft. lbs.
b. Verify oil cooler hose clamps do not interfere with any other parts.
c. Replace clips at end of driveshafts and joint shaft before installation.
d. Torque tie rod locknut to 31-42 ft. lbs.
e. Torque engine crossmember inner attaching bolts to 27-38 ft. lbs.
f. Torque engine crossmember outer attaching bolts to 47-68 ft. lbs.
