Small Sun Gear and One-Way Clutch 1
PreinspectionOne-way clutch 1 operation
While holding the one-way clutch outer race, verify that the one-way clutch inner race rotates smoothly when turned clockwise and locks when turned counterclockwise. If not as specified, replace the one-way clutch 1.
Disassembly / Inspection / Assembly
1. Disassemble in the order shown in the figure.
2. Inspect all parts and repair or replace as necessary.
3. Assemble in the reverse order of disassembly, referring to Assembly Procedure.
Inspection
Small sun gear, sun gear drum
Measure the small sun gear and sun gear drum inner diameter.
Inner diameter
Small sun gear: 21.021 mm {0.828 in} max.
Sun gear drum: 30.425 mm {1.198 in} max.
Assembly procedure
1. Install the small sun gear into the sun gear drum.
2. Install the new snap ring.
3. Apply petroleum jelly to the thrust bearing, and secure it to the one-way clutch inner race.
Thrust bearing outer diameter: 86.0 mm {3.39 in}
CAUTION: Install the one-way clutch Into the outer race with the spring cage facing as shown.
4. Install the one-way clutch 1 into the one-way clutch outer race.
NOTE: Align the splines of the one-way clutch inner race and small sun gear clutch hub.
5. Install the one-way clutch inner race into the one-way clutch outer race by turning the inner race counterclockwise.
6. Hold the one-way clutch outer race. Verify that the inner race turns only counterclockwise.
7. Install the new snap ring.
8. Verity that when the small sun gear is held, the one-way clutch outer race turns smoothly and only clockwise.
9. Apply petroleum jelly to the thrust bearing, and secure it to the sun gear drum.
