AFFECTED VINS
This bulletin applies to 1992 MX-3 models produced through March 1992 and with a VIN of JM1EC43**N0128199 and lower.
This bulletin does not apply to 1992 MX-3 models with a VIN equal to or greater than JM1EC43**N0128200 and produced after July 2, 1992.
DESCRIPTION
Some vehicles may experience noise coming from the upper side of the rear hatch. This noise is evident while driving on rough roads or going over bumps. There are two possible causes for this condition.
1. The noise is caused by the rear hatch lass bolt.
2. The noise is caused by the rear hatch hinge.
INSPECTION AND REPAIR PROCEDURE
If the above condition(s) exists, perform the following repair procedures:

1. Remove the rear hatch side trim.
2. Remove the rear hatch upper trim.
3. Remove the nut from the rear hatch glass bolt. Figure 1.
NOTE:
This nut was used for rear hatch glass positioning during vehicle production.
4. Apply grease to the bolt as shown in Figure 2.
5. Reinstall the nut and tighten to 0.4-0.6 m-kg.
6. Road test the vehicle to see if noise has been eliminated. If noise still exists, proceed to the next step.
Noise from the Rear Hatch Hinge
1. Spray lubricant on the moving part of the hinge. Figure 3.
2. Open and close the rear hatch 3 or 4 times.
3. Road test the vehicle to see if the noise has been eliminated.
4. If the noise still exists, replace the hinge. Removal and installation procedures are outlined in Section S of the applicable Workshop Manual.
Noise from the Rear Glass Molding
If noise still exists, replace the rear upper glass molding. Removal and installation procedures are outlined in Section S of the applicable Workshop Manual.
