6. Install cylinder head(s) by reversing numbered sequence shown in Fig. 13, noting the following:
a. Measure the amount of oil control plug projection from the deck of the cylinder block, Fig. 15. Oil control plug projection should be 0.315-0.354 inch. If projection is not within specifications, remove the oil control plug, then tap in a new one to the specified height. Replace oil control plug O-ring when cylinder head is removed.
b. Measure the length of each cylinder head retaining bolt from the shoulder to the end. Measurement should be between 5.26-5.29 inch. Replace bolt if not within specifications.
c. Torque cylinder head retaining bolts in two or three steps in sequence shown in Fig. 16 to 17-19 ft. lbs. Apply a paint mark to each cylinder head bolt as shown in Fig. 17. Using the marks as a reference point, tighten an additional 90° turn in sequence shown in Fig. 16. Further tighten each bolt another 90° turn.
d. Torque the cylinder head cover retaining bolts in sequence shown in Figs. 18 and 19 to 43-78 inch lbs.
