SOFT CONVERTIBLE TOP ZIPPER REPLACEMENT

NOTE:
This bulletin supercedes Service Bulletin # 027/92, Cat. S, issued 4/7/92.

DESCRIPTION





Broken or torn zippers in the Miata soft convertible top should be replaced by a professional upholsterer using the service parts listed in this bulletin.

Dealers should not perform this repair by replacing the complete soft convertible top or rear window.

Please provide a copy of this bulletin to the professional upholsterer performing this repair.

NOTE:
Before zipping and unzipping the rear plastic window, unlatch the soft top. This will ease the tension resulting in easier zipping and unzipping.

REPAIR INFORMATION

The following tips will be helpful during replacement of the soft top zipper.

1. Examine both sides of the zipper assembly on the soft top.

2. Compare the color of the new zipper (p/n NA01 R1 260) to the original.

3. If the cloth material of the zipper appears aged or faded, replace the entire soft top zipper.

4. If the color is the same and you decide to replace only one half of the zipper, pin the zipper to the rear window panel. Compare the length of the new zipper to the original.

NOTE:
Failure to perform step 4 will result in wrinkles at the top of the vinyl window and a shorter service life for the zipper.

5. Sew the zipper into the top of the rear window assembly.

6. Below the edge of the zipper on both sides of the rear window, you will see that the window is secured to the top with 2 velcro pads. Examine the pads and if they have become separated from the soft top material, sew them back on. DO NOT USE GLUE.

LIMITED WARRANTY COVERAGE

Mazda Motor of America, Inc. will not accept warranty claims for the following conditions:

SOFT TOP

1. Damage due to vandalism, improper care or use and outright abuse.

2. Damage due to mildew, excessive moisture or from lowering the top when it is wet.

3. Color fading and shrinking due to ultra-violet rays and natural aging.

4. Natural fading of thread or slightly irregular, non-consequential stitching.

LIMITED WARRANTY COVERAGE (Cont'd)

REAR WINDOW

1. Damage due to folding a dirty window.

2. Stains due to lack of cleaning or failure to use the boot cover.

3. Damage due to ultra-violet rays, acid rain, industrial fallout, tree saps, sand, dust or extreme heat.

ZIPPER

1. Damage due to zipping when temperature is below recommended levels.

2. Damage due to zipping while top is latched.

INTERIOR

1. Damage due to ultra-violet ray (sun) exposure from the top being down for extended periods of time.

2. Damage due to rain or humidity from the top being down for extended periods of time.
