1. Raise and support vehicle, then remove tire and wheel assembly.
2. Check wheel bearing endplay as follows:
a. Position dial indicator against hub cap as shown in Fig. 1.
b. Push and pull brake drum by hand in axial direction and measure endplay.
c. If endplay exceeds .0079 inch (2mm), replace wheel bearing.
3. Remove hub cap, locknut and brake drum, Fig. 2.
4. Disconnect parking brake cable and brake pipe, then remove backing plate assembly.
5. Disconnect trailing and lateral links at knuckle spindle.
6. Remove knuckle spindle to shock absorber mounting bolts, then the knuckle spindle.
7. Using pressing tools, remove bearing assembly from brake drum.
8. Reverse procedure to install, torque all bolts and nuts to specification.
