Distributor Cap: Testing and Inspection
Distributor Cap And Rotor:
CAP
1. Visually inspect distributor cap for:
a. Cracks or other physical damage.
b. Carbon tracks between electrodes.
c. Worn center electrode carbon brush.
d. Corrosion or deposits on outer electrodes.
e. Indications of arcing.
2. Replace cap if any of these conditions are detected.
3. Check for continuity between inside electrodes and the respective ignition wire terminals on the cap exterior. If continuity is not found across all electrodes and terminals, replace cap.
ROTOR
1. Check rotor for:
a. Cracks or other physical damage.
b. Signs of excessive burning or pitting at center contact and tip.
2. Replace rotor if any of these conditions are detected.
3. Check that continuity exists between tip and center contact. If not, replace rotor.
