FUEL LID WILL NOT OPEN (FOR MODELS W/REMOTE FUEL LID OPENER)

AFFECTED VINS

This bulletin applies to vehicles with a VIN of JM1BG2***N0582793 or lower produced through November 30, 1992.

This bulletin does not apply to vehicles with a VIN equal to or greater than JM1BG2***N0582794 and produced after November 30, 1992.

DESCRIPTION

On some vehicles, the remote fuel lid will not open when activated. This condition is due to a broken or dislocated lift spring. The lift spring may have been damaged or dislocated by frequent contact with the gasoline pump nozzle.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

If the above condition occurs, replace the lift spring with a modified part. The modified lift spring's configuration prevents the gasoline pump nozzle from coming into contact with the spring.

Removal and installation procedures are outlined in Section S of the applicable Workshop Manual.

REMOTE FUEL-FILLER LID RELEASE OVERRIDE

To access the lift spring, open the trunk, remove the trim on the left rear side, reach into the opening and pull the latch towards the rear of the vehicle. Wear gloves to protect your hands from sharp edges.

If the fuel-filler lid is frozen shut, push it lightly or gently tap it with your fingers.
