Evaporative Emissions System: Description and Operation
Evaporative Emission Control System (EVAP):
The Purge Control Solenoid Valve, located on the firewall on the left side of the engine compartment, is an ECU controlled component of the evaporative emission control system.
The solenoid valve is operated by duty signals from the ECU. The quantity of evaporative fumes introduced into the engine and burned is controlled corresponding to engine operating conditions. Evaporative fumes are purged from the charcoal canister under these conditions:
^ Engine at operating temperature.
^ Vehicle being driven in gear.
^ Accelerator pedal depressed (throttle sensor off idle).
^ Oxygen sensor functioning properly.
