Throttle Position Sensor: Adjustments

INSPECTION

Throttle Sensor Inspection:

1. Connect SST's (Engine Signal Monitor and Adapter Harness), or aftermarket equivalents, to PCME.
2. Set SST to position 2M. Turn ignition "ON."

NOTE: Without SST, voltage can be checked at PCME terminal 2M.

3. Open throttle by hand and verify voltage is within specification as check at PCME terminal 2M:

Fully Closed: 0.1 - 1.1V
Fully Open: 3.1 - 4.4V

4. If not as specified, adjust sensor.

ADJUSTMENT

Throttle Sensor Connector:

1. Unplug sensor connector. Connect ohmmeter across terminals IDL and GND.

Throttle Sensor Adjustment:

2. Insert a feeler gauge between throttle stop screw and stopper lever. Check continuity:

0.006 in (0.15 mm) Gauge: Continuity
0.020 in (0.50 mm) Gauge: No Continuity

3. If not as specified, loosen sensor screws.
4. Insert 0.006 in (0.15 mm) feeler gauge between stop screw and stopper lever. Rotate sensor clockwise approximately 30 degrees, then rotate counterclockwise until ohmmeter indicates continuity.
5. Replace gauge with 0.020 in (0.50 mm) gauge and verify no continuity.
6. Tighten screws to 14 - 20 in lb (1.6 - 2.3 Nm).
