Final Engine Assembly

1. Install crankshaft pulley and baffle plate. Tighten to specifications.
2. Install knock sensor and oil pressure switch.
3. Install oil filter body, tightening to specifications.
4. Apply engine oil to gasket of new oil filter, then install filter, hand tightening only.
5. Install oil dipstick and tube.
6. Place new exhaust manifold gasket in position and install exhaust manifold assembly. Tighten nuts and bolts in two or three steps to specifications.
7. Install exhaust manifold insulator and tighten to specifications.
8. Connect injector harness, then place new intake manifold gasket in position.

9. Install intake manifold assembly, ensuring to set lock washer with white paint marks facing upward. Tighten flange nuts in two or three steps in sequence, Fig. 55, to specifications.
10. Install distributor as follows:
a. Apply engine oil to O-ring and position O-ring on distributor.
b. Apply grease to coupling shaft
c. Hand tighten distributor hold-down bolt.
d. Install spark plug wires.
e. Set ignition timing after engine installation and tighten distributor mounting bolt.

11. Install water bypass hose.
12. Install water inlet pipe and tighten to specifications.
13. Install front and rear engine hangers and tighten to specifications.
14. Install A/C bracket and idler pulley and tighten bracket bolts and idler pulley bolt to specifications.
15. Install power steering bracket and idler pulley and tighten to specifications.
16. Install engine mounts and tighten to specifications.
